WILL LLOYD
Will had a great season consistently running at the front showing great pace. A struggle for pace in Heat 2 of the last round potentially due to pressure of the event showed the effort he has been putting in. Words of advice from his Father Simon Lloyd shaped him back up and in the very next heat came away with a win. The points then were secured for the final and all he needed was a race finish to win the Championship. Still he pushed for a podium and a 3rd place finish was a great result in such a strong grid.
🏁 Round 6 Review – GYG Championship 2025
A Wet and Wild Weekend
Round 6 brought something rarely seen in the championship – a fully wet event for both classes. With standing water and spray testing every driver, newcomers were thrown straight into the deep end. Some needed time to adjust, while others hit the ground running, giving the established championship contenders something to think about heading into 2026.
🟩 Lightweights
Qualifying
Jake Williams set the pace in qualifying with a stunning 1:07.031, almost a full second clear of Aeddan Senior’s 1:08.015. Kurt Roberts narrowly missed out on second with a 1:08.113, while Tom Haywood struggled to find speed but still salvaged fourth to keep his title hopes alive. Riley Mallinson impressed in fifth, and the fastest newcomer was Luke Lodge in seventh.
Heat 1
Another display of dominance from Jake Williams saw him take a lights-to-flag victory, pulling a five-second gap over Aeddan Senior, who drove superbly in the rain to finish four seconds ahead of Kurt Roberts. Midfield drama saw Tom Haywood slip to seventh as Alan Twigg worked his way up to fourth, using all of his experience in the wet.
Heat 2
Williams was unstoppable, carving through the field with overtakes galore and making up eight places on the first lap. Haywood finally found his form, throwing in a 1:06.789, just a tenth shy of Williams’ best. Kurt Roberts and Aeddan Senior finished third and fourth respectively, while Luke Lodge again impressed with a confident drive to seventh.
Final
Conditions worsened slightly, but lap times stayed strong. Haywood’s resurgence continued with a great drive from deep on the grid to second place, while Kurt Roberts’ consistency earned him another third. Luke Lodge put on a sensational display to claim fourth and the Driver of the Day award.
But the lightweight class firmly belonged to Jake Williams, who swept pole, two heat wins and the Final victory. Fresh from a Rapi Kart round in the morning, Williams capped a memorable day with yet another win.
🟦 Middleweights
Qualifying
Track conditions remained tricky as the middleweights fought for grid positions. Connor Heath was untouchable at the sharp end, storming to pole with a 1:07.273. Simon Lloyd clocked 1:08.383, just over a second adrift, while Euros Jonessecured third with 1:09.034. All eyes were on newcomer Michael Henderson, who impressed with 1:10.537 for eighth on the grid.
Heat 1
Heath converted pole into victory, leading all nine laps at an average of 26.46 mph and setting the fastest lap with 1:07.089. Lloyd and Jones completed the podium, while Rob Morgan and Aled Davies fought hard for fourth and fifth. Michael Henderson showed progress with sixth, and Peter Mason edged Ethan Kennedy for seventh as Rita McCowan rounded out the finishers.
Heat 2
The reverse-grid race brought action from start to finish. Rob Morgan carved through to the front, bringing Michael Henderson with him. A charging Connor Heath fought from the back to take second. Midfield battles between Euros Jones and Simon Lloyd gave fans plenty to cheer about.
Final
The final was calmer but no less tense. With conditions still treacherous, Connor Heath remained flawless, controlling the race and pulling a four-second gap over the field. Simon Lloyd got the better of Rob Morgan early on to claim second, though Morgan’s stronger heat results earned him a two-point edge over Lloyd in the standings. Michael Henderson capped a brilliant debut with fifth place and the Driver of the Day award thanks to consistent and improving lap times.
