YOUR JUNIOR 2025 CHAMPION

Huge Congratulations to our 2025 Junior GYG Championship winner

WILL LLOYD

Will had a great season consistently running at the front showing great pace. A struggle for pace in Heat 2 of the last round potentially due to pressure of the event showed the effort he has been putting in. Words of advice from his Father Simon Lloyd shaped him back up and in the very next heat came away with a win. The points then were secured for the final and all he needed was a race finish to win the Championship. Still he pushed for a podium and a 3rd place finish was a great result in such a strong grid.

🏎️ Club Karting Race Report – August Round

Junior

Qualifying

Newcomer Daisy Newsome made an immediate impact, topping the times early in qualifying. The returning Lewis Tracey soon reminded everyone of his pedigree, storming to the top of the leaderboard and eventually securing pole position. Behind them, the field was incredibly tight, Championship leader Will Lloyd struggling for pace down in 8th, while his championship rival Dan Griffin lined up just ahead in 7th. Remarkably, less than a second separated the entire top 10. At the flag, it was Lewis Tracey on pole, Daisy with a stunning debut effort in 2nd, Gethin Jones in 3rd, and Jack Rogan close behind in 4th.

Heat 1

Heat 1 was action-packed from the opening lap, with drivers pushing hard and several receiving warnings for contact as they fought for every inch of track. On his return, Lewis Tracey showed his dominance, leading lights-to-flag and building a 4-second margin at the front. Behind him, Daisy continued to impress, keeping up the pace to secure a brilliant 2nd place. Zach battled hard in the top five and was rewarded with a strong 3rd, while Sam Makison and Dan Griffin came through the scraps to take 4th and 5th respectively. Jack Rogan rounded out the top six. It was a race to forget for Will Lloyd, who dropped down the order after early trouble, eventually coming home in 15th.

Heat 2

The reverse grid delivered its usual drama in Heat 2, with penalties and warnings handed out across the field as drivers fought to make up ground. This time, it was Will Lloyd who capitalised, stretching out an early lead and commanding the race all the way to the chequered flag to take a much-needed victory and bag some much needed Championship points. Zach Rogan sliced through the pack with determination to grab 2nd, while Lewis Tracey once again proved his class by working his way through the traffic to finish 5th. Zach Rogers also shone, crossing the line in 6th after a great drive. Dan Griffin fought hard all race long and just managed to cling onto 7th. After her superb Heat 1, Daisy Newsome found this one tougher, struggling to make overtakes stick and finishing 10th. There were strong midfield drives from Sam Mackinson, Zach Hassan, and Freddie Barrett Cherry, while Ellie May Roberts slipped down the order after starting at the front, ending up 15th.

Final

The grand final brought the weekend to a thrilling conclusion, packed with wheel-to-wheel action. At the front, Lewis Tracey showed once more why he’s such a formidable competitor, controlling the pace to take a superb win on his return. Behind him, Daisy Newsome capped off her debut weekend in style, soaking up immense pressure from behind to secure a sensational 2nd place. The fight for the final podium spot was intense. Jack Rogan initially crossed the line in 3rd, but a post-race warning for contact saw him demoted a place, promoting Will Lloyd onto the podium in 3rd. Further back, the midfield scrap between Zach Hassan, Will Murphy, Sam Mackinson, and Zac Rodgers kept the crowd entertained with constant position changes. For Dan Griffin, the final was a tough one. Struggling to match the leaders’ pace, the championship contender still showed determination, battling hard to salvage 12th.

Middleweight Class

Qualifying

A superb lap from Peter Mason put him on pole with a 56.649, just ahead of Rob Morgan in 2nd with a 56.739. Rita McCowen impressed with a strong lap to line up 3rd in what was a highly competitive qualifying session.

Heat 1

The opening heat was a tense battle between Peter Mason and Rob Morgan. Mason defended superbly, soaking up relentless pressure, but Morgan used all his years of experience to find a way through with a great move and held on for victory. Rita McCowen shadowed the pair all the way to finish 3rd, while further back Euros Jones and Simon Lloyd engaged in a thrilling scrap for 4th, with Jones just holding on.

Heat 2

The reverse grid brought out some of the cleanest racing of the day, with not a single warning issued. Drivers showed patience, smart overtakes, and plenty of respect throughout. Simon Lloyd kept a calm head and worked his way methodically through the pack, eventually taking the win and even building a 1.7-second gap over Alan Adams in 2nd. Despite showing strong pace, Peter Mason couldn’t make the progress he wanted and had to settle for 6th.

Final

The Middleweight final was a three-way thriller, with Rob Morgan, Simon Lloyd, and Peter Mason running nose-to-tail from lights to flag. Both Simon and Peter tried everything to get past, and Lloyd briefly forced his way through, but the move was deemed too aggressive. A warning dropped him back to 2nd, leaving Rob Morgan to claim the win.Peter Mason was right in contention but ultimately came home 3rd. Just behind, Euros Jones, Rita McCowen, and Alan Adams produced a fantastic Battle for 4th, 5th, and 6th.

Driver of the Day went to Alan Adams for his consistent pace and strong race craft.

Lightweight Class

Qualifying

The Lightweight qualifying session was the closest on record, with just six tenths covering the top 10 drivers. Ben Hughes snatched pole on his very last lap, with championship leader Tom Haywood in 2nd. Jake Williams and Kurt Roberts lined up 3rd and 4th in what promised to be a thrilling set of heats.

Heat 1

Heat 1 turned into a train of nose-to-tail action, with positions swapping constantly but the pace never faltering. Kurt Roberts made his way from 3rd on the grid to claim the win, with Tom Haywood close behind in 2nd. Sonny Mackey impressed with a strong drive to 4th.

Heat 2

Experience paid off at the start, with Alan Twigg pouncing on a mistake by Cameron Mallison that also involved Sion Cafell. Meanwhile, Jake Williams pulled off a stunning charge from 9th to 4th on lap one, and by lap 3 he was leading the race. From there, the battle intensified, with the entire field running nose-to-tail — the closest racing seen in years. Tom Haywood and reigning champion Kurt Roberts were right in the mix, but it was Williams who held on for the win, with Roberts 2nd and Twigg showing his experience to secure 3rd. Astonishingly, just three seconds covered the top nine at the finish.

Final

Grid positions were incredibly tight heading into the final, with every point from the heats proving crucial. A warning in Heat 2 dropped Tom Haywood to 6th on the grid, while Kurt Roberts took pole ahead of Jake Williams. The race was slightly more settled than the heats but no less intense. Williams managed to edge into the lead, while Roberts found himself defending heavily from Aeddan Senior in a tense fight for 2nd. Roberts held on when the flag fell, but post-race drama unfolded again. Williams’ move on Roberts earlier in the race was deemed too aggressive, handing Roberts the win, with Williams demoted to 2nd. Alan Twigg once again showed his class, taking 3rd and earning Driver of the Day. Tom Haywood battled hard from 6th to finish 4th, ensuring his championship challenge remains strong. The Lightweight final proved once again just how competitive the class has become, with the top 10 separated by just three seconds at the flag. This title fight is wide open heading into the final rounds.
